we actually would like very much to have you involved in the module. The
issue is more that it's difficult to contribute to,
e.g., this pull request is rather trivial, and has been sitting there for a
long while:

So the idea is set up the CSS project so that more people can contribute to
in on equal footing, instead of having
to roll custom binary builds like we did for the last couple of GeoServer
releases
