I would like to open a pull request, but if you mind to take a look at it, you can find it on GitHub on our repo phoops/geoserver in the 13D_CPO_TP2 branch. We developed a few additional community modules (ols, ols-OTP and so on), one for each backend you may use. I wrote a bit of documentation in the README of the ols project.
