That is correct, you have also asked on the list here (and gotten a +1 from
a PMC member). The reason we are so formal on this one as this back port
changes the code license back to a more permissive license (in this case
the docs are public domain, and the unsupported module LGPL).
In general (when the licenses are compatible) you do not need to ask.
