We have tried it running under Java 8 and we haven't encountered any problems at this point. java version "1.8.0_31" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_31-b13)
We have GeoServer running under Windows 2008 R2 connecting to Sql Server 2012 geospatial databases.
