I tested the platform-independent binary under OpenJDK 8u90 (8u91-b14-2 amd64) on debian/sid. Everything I tested worked fine (including a sampling of layer previews and demo requests). I also examined the -bin.zip and several plugins zip files and found nothing untoward (and no SNAPSHOT artifacts).
