Hi,
recently I've been experimenting with loading the catalog from disk in a
concurrent fashion (with a thread safe
DefaultCatalogFacade that I've been working on and that was briefly
discussed in the last PSC meeting).
The main issue I'm facing trying to perform a parallel load is that the
load happens while the Spring
application context is not fully loaded yet, and that in turn causes
deadlocks.
This happens because parsing the xml files makes the security system do
plugin searches
via GeoServerExtensions.beans(...) to decode passwords in xml files, with a
parallel load that would
happen in a thread other than the one loading the app-context, and the
dealock occurs because Spring
has a lock preventing multithreading during app-context startup.
So I was wondering, would it be possible to load the catalog _after_ the
app context startup instead?
Right now the only issue I'm aware of is GWC loading its own tile layers,
but that could also be moved
after the startup sequence.
Anyone aware of other reasons?
