Yes. It is related to the GWC API switch. I have been looking into it, but
to be honest not having much luck so far.
In brief the issue seems to be that the GWC Spring MVC context is
interfering with the base GeoServer Spring context. This manifests in a few
ways, but I suspect the issue you're seeing is because none of the correct
Message Converters exist within the Spring MVC context that gets used. You
can see this in the current YSLD test failures (the ones that Jody set to
ignore). These fail ultimately because the StyleInfo message converters
aren't available.
I've tried a few things to fix this, with no luck so far. Namely I've tried
separating out the standalone GWC Spring MVC config into its own optional
module, and excluding this module from the GeoServer build. This fixes the
GS REST endpoints, but then the GWC endpoints are no longer available. When
I debug under this scenario I can see that the GWC endpoints are there, but
they're mapped under the base /rest context, rather than the /gwc context.
I've tried a few other permutations of Spring configurations without much
luck. Try as I might I can't get the two REST contexts to coexist correctly.
I'm going to keep working on it, but I'm also open to any suggestions. I
have no idea what sorts of customizations in GeoServer might be interfering
at this point. Theoretically I think two separate Spring REST contexts are
able to exist in the same application, but so far it hasn't worked out for
me.
