Dear community,
I was in touch earlier regarding a fix that would enable Geoserver to serve raw
raster data with 16 bit data size trough WMS without it being rescaled to 8 bit.

I understood from a brief discussion with Simone Giannecchini that the fix in
its current state is insufficient for being merged into the codebase. We are
however eager to get this functionality working and would appreciate any hints
on how the fix could be improved.
Simone mentioned that the WMS encoders need to be updated and also that the
contrast enhancement will need reviewing. We are however not entirely sure how
all the pieces fit together and would appreciate any insight on what to focus
on to make this an official Geoserver feature.
