I would like to discuss a bit a small feature that would allow to configure
logging patterns so that they report
(selected) HTTP headers in the logs.

The idea is to add an interceptor of sorts (servlet filter, dispatcher
callback) that would load into the
Log4J Mapped Diagnostic Context the HTTP headers of the current request:

Those could be then included in the Log4j patterns using %X (reporing all
headers) or %X{headerName}
(reporting the specific header, or nothing in case it's missing, e.g.,
startup logs). E.g. a configuration like:

log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=[%t] %d{dd MMM HH:mm:ss} %p
[%c{2}] -* %X{Host}* - %m%n

would generate something like:

 [qtp1312963234-30] 09 feb 15:19:55 INFO [geoserver.wms] - *localhost:8080*
 - ....

This could be a plugin, but seems it could be of general usefulness and
exacting headers should be really
fast, so it could also be placed in core if we want to.
