Hi, during the meeting today we have discussed about a refresh of the GeoServer support page.
About specific companies links, the following actions seem to be the easy ones: - Switch Boundless to Planet Federal (do we also need a new icon) - Remove LISASoft and Envitia as no longer providing services around GeoServer (as far as we know at least, let us know if we're wrong about it). As Simone said, we should also make a call on the list and maybe on Twitter to have other companies listed. Then we would like to reorganize the page so that the ranking is based on contribution that keep the project alive and going, in particular: - PMC/PSC participation - Module maintainership and associated activities (coding, bug fixes, PR reviews, user list support) - User support (list, stackoverflow) - Documentation - Release management - Jira ticket vetting (verify valid, help the reporters to complete the tickets) - Participation to the bug fix sprints An idea would be to have three categories: 1. Core contributors (does coding and some of the unpaid activities above that keep the project code) 2. Contributor (no coding but some visible, continued activity in the other activities) 3. Service providers (does not participate to the project activities above but still sells something around it, e.g. training, bug fixing and new features and "new features on demand" but without any follow up in terms of maintanership for them) However, checking category number 2, I believe it would be empty right now (if I overlooked someone, please let me know, I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong). Having that category anyways would be a way to give an economic value to project participation, the message would be "hey you can be higher up if only we see continued activity from you on some of the bits that make the project tick, but are not otherwise paid for", which maybe would spur some more involvement in organizations in the "service providers" category.
