Dear all, I'm writing here to contribute a new community module in GeoServer:
gs-libdeflate Deflate compression/decompression is used by TIFF plugins when specifying DEFLATE compression on write or reading a Deflate compressed image. The current ImageI/O plugin uses the ZLIB based Deflater <https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/util/zip/Deflater.html>: (and related Inflater counterpart) ImageIO-EXT recently added support for libdeflate-java <https://github.com/astei/libdeflate-java>, with version 1.4.2 having an SPI based logic to use the higher priority deflate plugin available in the classpath, when working with TIFF Deflate. Some preliminary tests showed performance improvements in both reading and writing operations when using that lib on TIFF Deflate encoding/decoding with respect to the default one.(e.g. 10%-20% on reading, 40%-60% on writing). Therefore, I would like to contribute a plugin for GeoServer that allows to use this new lib when DEFLATE compression/decompression is involved.
