Hi all,
looking at the latest Jetty upgrade changelog I've stumbled into this
announcement:

https://github.com/eclipse/jetty.project/issues/7958

An upgrade to Jetty 10 would require both a switch to Java 11 as the
minimum version,
but also a switch to Jakarta EE 8, which will in turn require a Tomcat 10
as the minimum
target deploy version.

Now... Jetty 9 is not completely dead, it will still be released for
security fixes, it just means the releases will be less frequent and in
case we need it, we won't be able to get help from the Jetty community.

A possible alternative would be to get rid of Jetty altogether, and switch
to Embedded Tomcat
<https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/create-a-java-web-application-using-embedded-tomcat>instead,
for both development (running from IDE) and the bin package. Or switch to
Spring Boot single jar, which effectively also uses Embedded Tomcat.

Thoughts?

Also mind, whilst I think it's important to discuss this, I have zero spare
time left until schools start again in September, the little I had on
Saturday morning is now spent with my kids... so I won't be able to provide
personal help on this one (or the Java 11 upgrade).

Regards,

Andrea Aime
