Agree that GML and perhaps KML are a bit of history.

OpenLayers is an obvious 1st choice for layer preview as it stands
right now.

Because MapML is an extension module, I felt it was appropriate to
'promote' it to the prominent position it has when you go to the trouble of
installing the module. Ideally, it would be possible to replace the OL
preview in its No. 1 spot with that of an extension format.

Understandable if that's more trouble than it's worth at this time. CRS
support might be an issue for MapML, at least currently.  We're hopeful
that we can improve that situation over time.

Generally, it's good to keep up with the times by retiring veteran formats
when appropriate.
