The GeoServer team is pleased to share GeoServer 2.22-RC
<https://geoserver.org/release/2.22-RC/> for everyone to enjoy and help
test :)

You may notice that this release cycle is (checks watch ...) a month behind
the pace; so we really can use your feedback, bug reports and encouragement.

Check out the announcement
<https://geoserver.org/announcements/2022/10/19/geoserver-2-22-RC-released.html>
for
a summary and pictures of the new functionality in action:

   - Natural earth geopackage and workspace
   - User Manual Getting Started updated
   - Welcome Page Updates to layout, workspace and layer selection, and how
   to customize
   - Startup logging messages and a small fix to date formatting
   - Style format is now listed
   - CSW now has two new extensions: iso metadata, and a metadata editor
(with rest api and geonetwork import)
   - Significant improvements in raster rendering performance for those
with lots of pixels to push
   - Some community updates (reminder to support RnD)
   - And a whole host of fixes and improvements

Thanks to everyone who tested the 2.22-M0 milestone (and attended the
foss4g workshop) - due to your effort this release candidate is *much*
 better.

Please *reply to this email with the results of your testing *- we are
especially interested in:

   - The *new functionality and documentation*? Does it work
with your data? Do the docs make sense? Ask questions...
   - Try setting up a workspace with a *custom welcome message*, *contact
details* and *service descriptions* and share the picture or URL :) Jody
Garnett (ie me) are looking forward to seeing what you can do...
   - Please try everything with *your data and environment*. The
development team does not operate on "Windows 2022 NT Server Dance remix
edition" and we depend on your feedback
   - This is likely the last release that supports Java 8, but tell us *what
JDK you are using* and if upgrading to Java 11 LTS or Java 17 LTS will
be a problem for your organization?
   - We really want to know about *any regressions* - do not think for a
moment that any issue is obvious and we will notice (we won't it is up to
   you to speak up)
   - The CSW extensions for a *metadata editor* and *ISO metadata* support
sound fun - if your organization enjoys such things please try it out and
   give Niels feedback
   - A small thing: the downloads and extensions now include *html pages*
(rather than text files) for readme, running instructions, and licenses. If
you spot anything missing or incorrect please let us know.
   - The natural earth sample dataset should be great for demos and
tutorials (can move away from topp:states). If you into maps we
value your *cartographic
feedback and improvements* are very much welcome.
   - Another small thing: The web service URLs were fixed to follow the
standard as part of this update; *try out the GeoCapabilities URLs* from
the welcome page in your fav desktop, web or mobile client.

We do our best to acknowledge everyone who responds during this testing
window as part of the final release announcement. This is your chance to
take part; give the release candidate a download, let us know how it works,
and we can get GeoServer 2.22.0 out the door for November.
