Version 2.23.3 was actually the first one with slow performance. Version 2.23.2
was fast. Also tested 2.25.2 – slow. Using java 11 (Eclipse Adoptium:
11.0.23). Tried to test java 17 but could not get GeoServer to output any WMS.

Windows 10 ,
Java 11 (Eclipse Adoptium: 11.0.23)
Installed form the windows installer.

slow on the furthest scale

Yes that would need helpful, we should be able to find a change that causes the
problem.

But please test 2.25.2 … there was a known bug fixed that effected postgis
performance on Java 17, and then the fix caused problems for one release, …

Hi,

Continuing my previous email. I tested on a local computer with GeoServer
2.22.3 and it was super fast. Always under one second. Same data but from a
local PostGIS database and same styles.
Then I tested the 2.23.3 version and it was slow. Now on scale 1:30000 it takes
about 10 seconds. Closer it is fast. Something has changed, I don’t know what.
Seems like it is reading every feature from every layer on the layer group and
previously it only read the ones defined as needed in style.

Should I try to pinpoint the exact GeoServer version it got slow? Now I just
chose the ones I think we had installed previously.

Hello,

I have a layer group consisting of three layers. Each corresponding to
different tables in PostGIS and different scale levels as determined in three
different stylefiles.
Now suddenly the layer group is very slow when viewed from far away. It used to
work a lot faster. Not sure when it changed although we upgraded to the 2.25.1
version, but I think this was happening before too. Just now started
investigating.

Here is the configuration:
Layer Group mode single.

Layer 1: 2 000 000 features, shown on scale 4000 and below.
Layer 2: 200 000 features, shown on scale between 4000 – 8000.
Layer 3: 20 000 features, shown on scales over 8000

Styles are quite large with the biggest one being just under 4000 lines in CSS
and 16 000 lines in SLD. Maybe a contributing factor but I also tested with
generic style modified with similar scale ranges.

I tested with scale 1:30 000 and it took some 10 seconds to load in QGIS
although I think it should only use the third layer with only 20 000 features.
Individually the third layer took under one second to load.
With generic style modified with similar scale ranges. Results were faster as
it took under 3 seconds to load the layer group but individually layer 3 took
only 0.5 to 1 second to load. With very simple style it still uses a lot time
to do something.

Has anyone else noticed similar results?

GeoServer version 2.25.1.
