This is what was in the log file, the funny thing (at least to me anyways)
is that if I install the standalone the extensions work, I can't for the
life of me find out why it is not able to load the libraries.

The logs appear in [tomcat install dir]/logs/catalina.out . GeoServer also
keeps its own logs in the data directory (under logs/). Either of these
should include a report of any failures while loading a plugin, assuming the
plugin is properly installed in WEB-INF/lib/.

I am installing the extensions according to the user manual/documentation on
the GeoServer website. I have not looked at the logs, (frankly because I do
not know where they live I am a beginner with Tomcat, but I see an advantage
of using it over Jetty).

How are you installing the extensions? Do you get any indication of a
source of errors in the Tomcat logs?

I have attempted to post this message twice now with this being the third

I have been trying for weeks now to get any extension to work in GeoServer
using Tomcat on Windows. I can, however, get it to work using Ubuntu. I have
tried Tomcat 5.5.30 and Tomcat 6.0.18, and have no luck. If I install
GeoServer using the standalone windows installer I can get it to work only
by starting the application manually. Has anyone else had similar problems?
Thanks.
