No need to install GeoNode for printing. You can use the GeoServer print 
module: http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/community/printing/

What you see in GeoExplorer is the GeoExt PrintPreview extension: 
http://trac.geoext.org/wiki/ux/PrintPreview

Google does not allow using their tiles directly, unless you have an enterprise 
contract with them. And for OSM, you have to edit the config.yaml of the print 
module to allow access to the OSM tile server. See it working here:
