I upgraded one of our GeoServer servers to 2.1 beta1. Then I copied the
proxy-2.0-SNAPSHOT.jar file to
$GEOSERVER_HOME/webapps/geoserver/WEB-INF/lib.

After that, GeoServer fails repeatedly on almost every Administrator
request with Sorry, your session timed out... Which seems to be the
result from this error:

INFO   | jvm 1    | 2010/11/05 08:39:47 | java.lang.VerifyError: class
org.geoserver.web.proxy.HostnameProvider overrides final method
model.(Ljava/lang/Object;)Lorg/apache/wicket/model/IModel;

If I remove the Proxy JAR file, the errors disappear. Everything seems
fine.

My questions are:

Have I missed a beta release of the GeoServer proxy extension? Is one
planned?

Should I not use the Extension in favor of what? The Jetty proxy? Or?

Thanks for the help,
