Interesting... Could it be how you're generating the hash in your php code?
I'm struggling with the same issue and trying to avoid it with Perl CGI...
With no solution as of yet.

I'm going to start another thread regarding authenticating by generating
your own cookie.... Maybe that will solve your problem as well.
