Odd. What version of GeoServer are you using?
Do you still have layers using that store around?
If not and you look into the
$GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR/workspaces/<workspace>/<store>
directory pertaining to your store, does it still have subdirectories
around, and if so,
what do they have inside?
