To my knowledge there is no automatic integration. This is what I did: Deployed GeoServer and GeoNetwork as separate webapps (.war files). See http://geonetwork-opensource.org how to setup GeoNetwork.
After both GeoServer and GeoNetwork have been setup you can harvest metadata from GeoServer by configuring standard GeoNetwork OGC WMS/WFS Harvesters through the GeoNetwork admin webpages.
