Hi,

I had the same problem, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with GeoServer 2.0.2
sun-java6. Java seems to be ok. I solve this issue by changing the onwer of
geoserver folder using

chown -R user:group geoserver-2.0.2/

Of course you have to setup environment variables. By default when
uncompressing the Geoserver .zip file Ubuntu set onwer to 'root', so you
have to change this to your own username and group.
