Hi, I am about to start a web application with user collaboration needs. I have seen this page/thread http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/User+Collaboration+web+pages, but it doesn't look very active anymore.
What I am trying to achieve here is to let a user create a (map based) project and decide who he wants to share the project with and be able to assign them specific roles to interact with the data he generated, eg one for viewing, one for editing, etc... There are a number off the shelf security mechanisms available in GeoServer and I would like to use those, ie I am thinking of user/roles and layer security, eg by creating a set of roles for each new project and assigning them. My problem here is I don't know how to programmatically change the user.properties and the layer.permission files through GeoServer, either client side or server side (GeoServer and the web application could run in the same container). I would really appreciate any help/pointers on this.
