Hi list,

I’m using Geoserver 2.0.2 .
I’m working on a application executing a “GetMap” queres that use external SLD
files. These SLD are passed to GEOSERVER through the SLD parameter of the HTTP
GET query, and have a small question in relation with that.
Currently, the name of the “NamedLayer” element inside of the SLD must match
the name used in the “layers” parameter of the query. But I would like to reuse
the same SLD file for several layers. It doesn't seem to ne possible as each
SLD called externally by the "SLD" HTTP parameter can work with one layer only
due the required mention of the layer name inside of the XML.

e.g: this SLD will work for a “GetMap” query on the layer
“topp:europe_west_level_0”

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<StyledLayerDescriptor version="1.0.0" …>

<NamedLayer>

    <Name>topp:europe_west_level_0</Name>

    <UserStyle>

    …
    </UserStyle>

  </NamedLayer>

</StyledLayerDescriptor>

It actually works when called by the following query:

http://193.190.116.6:8080/geoserver/wms?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap&SERVICE=WMS&EPSG=4326&layers=topp:europe_west_level_0&EPSG=4326&format=image/png&bbox=6.4,34,35,44.55&WIDTH=1000&HEIGHT=800&sld=http://edit.br.fgov.be/test_debug/giant_polygon.sld

...but I would like to reuse the same SLD with any layer in the WMS that
contains polygon.
This can work with the registered “static” styles in Geoserver (that are also
based on SLD), but not with the ones that are passed dynamically in the
“GetMap” query.
Is there a mechanism allowing Geoserver doing so (like a regular expression in
the Name element of the XML)? What about version 2.0.3?

Cheers,

Franck
