I was able to load a custom geowebcache configuration by placing geowebcache.xml file in the gwc/ directory of my geoserver data directory. The configuration file is valid and seems to be working as expected. However, geowebcache still seems to break on a reload. When I press the reload button from page /geoserver/gwc/demo I just get a page that displays a broken image link and a message that says:
400:null After some fiddling I discovered that this only occurs if I am logged in to the geoserver webapp. If I am not previously logged into the geoserver, I get the following rather odd message. "Unknown or malformed request. Please try again, somtimes the form is not properly received. This frequently happens on the first POST after a restart. The POST was to /geoserver/gwc/rest/reload" I have gone back to demo page, hit refresh several times and tried again as instructed. It still doesn't work.
