Hi,

It may be qgis (version 1.5) problem during export of shapefile. last year i
face the same problem, but now we are using mapviewer to load into oracle
tables. It automatically gives multipolygon in the geometry list and we were
editing that geometry type manually in SPIT plugin of qgis.

Note: It happens often, but not every time, as per my observation.
