Nope, they are not.
The easiest workaround is probably to use ogr2ogr to translate them into a
supported format, such
as shapefile or postgis
Other options might involve reviving the old MIF data stores, that was
removed because nobody maintained
it for years, or restart the effort to use OGR as a native library to read a
variety of formats.
