GeoServer explicitly lists only ttf fonts. I did not even know that Java supported OTF fonts, but it seems that in Java 6 there is such ability: http://mindprod.com/jgloss/opentype.html#JAVASUPPORT Feel free to add a feature request on jira.codehaus.org.
