That's odd, it seems to me you have applied a small white Halo to your
labels, yet
the sld you attached does not have one.
Are you sure you're actually using the SLD you think you're using?
The font is also different, you specified Arial but the map is rendered with
some serif
font... this one might actually happen in case your machine does not really
have Arial available...
but the halo when you did not specify one, no, that's new to me
