Hopefully not too late to the party, but I just wanted to point out that
although Google Maps uses geographic coordinates (lon/lat), the EPSG code for
Spherical Mercator is not EPSG:4326, but the unofficial EPSG:900913 and the
official EPSG:3785 and EPSG:3857. Just so you pass along the correct srs
parameter from your OL application to GeoServer.
