Solved...

The problem was with the JDK. The QA box has JDK "1.6.0_24" and the PROD JDK "1.6.0_20".

Upgraded to "1.6.0_26" and the labels aligned.

Very cruel.

The layer contains a set of places (points) and the SLD simple anchors the label in the middle of the red point. The SLD is then copied to the production box, but the labels are horizontally missed aligned. Some labels are align but most don't.
