Totally useful, because I've got a 20+mb GetCaps document, which is really insane to use on the client. I can't do anything about it now, because my basemap is a layer group, and everything else sits inside workspaces. So a client app has to get root getcaps anyways.
The only solution I have is to move the basemap layers and layer group to another GeoServer instance.
