Yeah, CQL proves to be somewhat useful for me. But I don't think it has the capabilities to do some sort of a 'What-if' analysis. Can anyone clarify on this.
An example 'What-if' scenario that I am looking at is - 'What will be the population of some state in 2020 given the inputs for the past 20 years.'
Is support for such kind of queries already in Geoserver or it needs to be implemented ?

By a query, I mean not any SQL query, but simple attribute queries based on the attributes of the spatial data. Also, do you have any idea whether Geoserver provides support for 'What-if' spatial queries.

You mean, any sql query, interactively? That's not possible, it would be a wide open door to a SQL injection attack.An administrator can configure a parametric query as a source for a new layer though, being very careful aboutparameter validation to avoid attacks:
