There is no way to force a name, however recent versions of GeoServer
will give a more meaningful name to wms outputs, for example:
http://demo1.geo-solutions.it/playground/GeoSolutions/wms?LAYERS=GeoSolutions%3Aocean_bottom&STYLES=&FORMAT=image%2Fgeotiff&SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap&EXCEPTIONS=application%2Fvnd.ogc.se_inimage&SRS=EPSG%3A4326&BBOX=-30.234375,28.564453125,27.7734375,57.568359375&WIDTH=660&HEIGHT=330
will return a file named GeoSolutions-ocean_bottom.tif
I believe this should be available in 2.1.3, if not in 2.1.2 already.
Cheers
Andrea
