Hi all,

I have a question regarding deleting shapefiles via the REST API. In the
API documentation for deleting workspaces it is mentioned that using the
"recurse" parameter recursively deletes all resources maintained by that
workspace. I see that this is true and working but then the same shapefiles
are also maintained under a folder at this location "GEOSERVER
LOCATION/data_dir/data". In the data folder, all the deleted and current
workspaces and their shapefiles in use are saved and a delete command via
the REST API does not delete the resources under this folder ("GEOSERVER
LOCATION/data_dir/data").

Why is that so? Is that some sort of backup location? Because in effect, if
large shapefiles are uploaded and deleted and they still reside on the disk
then this can take up considerable amount of disk space over time. Is there
a way to delete the workspace/shapefiles under the "data" folder ALSO once
the shapefile is deleted from the actual workspace(s)?

Thanks in advance!
