Thank you for this. I added the file 2010_pyramid.properties to each sub
directory. It helped a bit, since at least, I got a different error message:

"Could not list layers for this store, an error occurred retrieving them:
The provided name for the location attribute is invalid."

In the current shapefile, the attribute "LOCATION" contains values such as:

Level 0-Row7-Col17.tif
Level 0-Row14-Col19.tif

I have seen a few of these shp-files with different data in this attribute
(just the name of the TIF file or the full path to it, such as \\(IP
address)\2008_pyramid\6394_155_14_12.tif). Do you know the correct settings
for this attribute? Would it be possible for you to provide an example?
GeoServer actually complains about the name of the attribute and not the
data residing within it, but as far as I know, "LOCATION" is the correct
name.

Also, I think that all of this information should be added to the GeoServer
documentation.
