After the reinstall of geoserver did you set the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR in
webapps/geoserver/WEB-INF/web.xml ?

datadirectory

Hi,

GeoServer uses its installation directory by default to store data,
the directory is called 'data'. If you wish to keep your data on
reinstalling GeoServer, you need to backup that directory before
deleting geoserver directory.

I haven''t checked it out but I think there's away of configuring a
directory that's outside of the web directory.

Even if you use PostGIS to store your data, all configuration
information is stored in this directory. So, backing it up before
reinstalling GeoServer can help a lot.

Kind Regards,
Okello Nelson.
