We have also been using Oracle 11g with GeoServer trunk for years. We obtained best results using the ojdbc14.jar included with the GeoServer oracle plugin. (Some users reported occasional strange errors with the ojdbc5.jar shipped by Oracle; might be coincidence, might not.)
