A common error are the access rights. Which is the user for your tomcat? And
who is owning /var/lib/geoserver_data? Hast the tomcat-user write access to the
directory?
I have no problems with changing GWC-cache-directory with Debian Squeeze and
Tomcat, when configuring it in web.xml
Greetings
Stefan
P.S.: I would be interested, if it helped.

Subject: [bulk]: [Geoserver-users] Location of geowebcache folder
Hi,
I'm using Geoserver v2.2 with Tomcat6 on Ubunto12.
I use the Geowebcache plug-in that is shipped with GS.
I'm having trouble setting the location the seeded tiles are saved to.
It seems they are now saved at the temp folder of Tomcat.
Tomcat clears this folder when restarting, making me reseed all the
time.
I've looked at
http://geowebcache.org/docs/current/configuration/storage.html
and ran
export GEOWEBCACHE_CACHE_DIR=/var/lib/geoserver_data
restarted Tomcat and reseeded.
No files are created in /var/lib/geoserver_data
I'm also having trouble finding the web.xml for GWC.
I do have one at /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/geoserver/WEB-INF/
I added
<context-param>
<param-name>GEOWEBCACHE_CACHE_DIR</param-name>
<param-value>/var/lib/geoserver_data</param-value>
</context-param>
to it and restarted Tomcat, but that didn't help.
Also when I create a new gridset it disappears after restarting Tomcat.
So I definitely have not configured GWC properly.
Can anybody assist me?
Thanks,
Paul
