In the admin interface, there's a section "Services" in the left-hand menu.
Clicking on "WMS" you can specify all sorts of settings. One of the sub
headings is "Resource consumption limits", just want you are looking for,
right? It doesn't restrict the number of features, but you can cap the
resources to maintain a performant service. The actual values depend on you
hardware specs, I presume.

wms request
Hi,
Is there any way by sld or other solution that i can restrict the number of
itens that geoserver will render in a wms request?
For instance, if my layer has 10.000 objects to render i add a restriction to
it render only 100 bc my server can only handle that.
The problem is that, not always the sld has filters like it should have depend
on the zoom level.
I want to add this kind of restriction to my aplication in order to save my
server resources even if my user define a not optimized sld.
