Hmm... we don't have specific procedures to try "just a bit", the normal
approach is to
give the entire data dir to the newer GeoServer.
Normally some parts of the configuration get updated, but I cannot remember
of cases
in which the data itself was touched, nor I remember of code that would do
such an
operation.
