Stefan, It appears you were right. I am getting the pink tiles when I click on that layer. When I right click on the page and open that link in a browser, I get a blank page, and the geoserver log seems to indicate that there is not a problem there. It appears my problem is on the OpenLayers side. Now I can focus on that.

There are two possibilities: You get an image which is correctly delivered but with no polygons in it or you get an error message from geoserver which perhaps tells you more about what is not working. But it seems to me that geoserver is rendering correctly because the log-entries indicate correct requests. How about reducing your openlayers to the minimum number of elements?
