I am using GeoServer Version 2.4.0 running in Windows Server 2008 R2. I am
using MS SQL Server 2008 R2. This is my first experience with MS SQL
Server, which could be part of my problem. I am trying to create a layer
based on a MS SQL Server data store. I installed the SQL Server extension
and the Microsoft files as specified in the documentation
<http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/data/database/sqlserver.html> .
The data in the MS SQL Server database is from a shapefile that I converted
using Shape2SQL <http://sharpgis.net/page/Shape2SQL.aspx> . The shapefile
data seemed to import fine and I can view the data in SQL Server Manager. I
setup the MS SQL Server data store as specified in the documentation. The
data store is setup correctly because I can access the tables when I setup a
layer based on that data store. The problem that I am having is that
nothing shows up in the Native SRS field. I have put in the Declared SRS
and used Force declared, but the Bounding Boxes can't be calculated from the
data. I have tried inputting the bounding boxes based on the data, but when
I create the layer and then try to view it in Layer Preview, no data is
displayed. I am having trouble understanding the geometry metadata table
section in the documentation. I understand the purpose of it, but am not
sure about the implementation. I have tried setting up the geometry
metadata table just as it is defined in the documentation, and then
specifying that table as the Geometry metadata table for the data store, but
it did not make a difference. Is the Geometry_Columns table defined in the
documentation the standard for SQL Server as it is written, or is that table
supposed to be edited based on my specific data? The table that I am using
in the SQL Server database for the layer contains a column for a unique
identifier and the geom column.
Could the problem be that my data is not setup properly in SQL Server to be
used in GeoServer?
Any suggestions you may have or guidance that you care to give is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerome Wendell
