Hi Andrea and Mauro,
I've tried to switch WFS version from 1.1.0 to 1.0.0. I was able to create
a store and publish a layer but when I try to preview this layer it fails.
Logs show that:

Extrenal wfs server is protected with basic auth. It works fine with
version=1.1.0, so it looks like GS is ignoring store username/password on
DescribeFeatureType request when version=1.0.0. Looks like a bug to me...
