A good potential intermediate solution would be to scan the first n
features all the time. Where n is something configurable. Want it disabled?
Set to 0. What everything? Set to 999999999. But with a "sensible" default
of 1000 or something (random number).
As a bonus that would obviate Damiano's issue.
