Hi,

Delighted to have geoserver up and running but came across a few things on
install (aws Ubuntu 14.04) which confused me (being new to geoserver) when
looking at the various resources:

1) I found that unless i set the "production environment" settings quite a
few things failed - including even getting geoserver to start. Should -Xmx,
-Xms and -XX:MaxPermSize actually be fundamental requirements?

2) http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/production/container.html
recommends setting -XX:+UseParallelGC. This caused Tomcat7 to fail to start
- i found -XX:+UseParNewGC seems to work for me so far but with little
testing.

3) With geoserver up and running i tried some test layer previews in
openlayers. I found "North America sample imagery" works fine as a single
image but if i swap to tiled (especially with a larger map size in px) and
zoom in a few levels, i quickly get tiles failing to generate - presumably
some relation to the image called covering little more (possibly less) than
a single pixel in the source imagery? Admittedly i haven't installed the
native JAI.

Hope these minor notes are productive...

Andy
