Hmm, that looks fine.

How did you set -XX:+UseParallelGC? In JAVA_OPTS in 
/etc/default/tomcat7? If two contradictory options are provided, tomcat7 
may refuse to start.

Did you see any errors in the logs or when running "service tomcat7 start"?
