Hi,
I am not a Python developer, but I think you can:
- use one of the many http client libraries available for Python to
directly call GeoServer API rest url endpoints
- have a look at gsconfig.py (https://github.com/boundlessgeo/gsconfig/wiki)
to see if it works in your use case
