Hi Javier,
personally I would create a new local 2.6.x branch from the official 2.6.x
and eventually forward port customizations you did on your 2.5.x, if you
have any.

Merging  2.6.x on your custom (and customized?) 2.5.x could be more
complicated and lead to strange results.
