Problem is no files are created trough GUI, since the error occurs when you have to specify the mapping file so nothing gets created ...
For the REST part, features work created this way ... but if you access the datastore through GUI after it is created ... well ... you end up with the same error of duplicates and you need to restart the Geoserver in order for the features to work again.
